There is a Chinese proverb that says : "He who returns from a journey is not the same as he who left."

It is well noted that when we to travel to a place beyond our comfort zone, we bring change, sometimes unnoticeably to ourselves - whether that be through the way that we alter our sense of fashion, our way of speech, or the way that we conduct ourselves to other people, or our way of thinking. The physical element of exploring a new place expands our minds and our horizons to new ways of thinking.

With the recent events of the pandemic during the past year and a half, many of us have felt that we have not only mentally and physically got older, but that it is incredibly difficult to retreat to the carefree days of our youth. When I turned 25, and subsequently 26, I wondered if I would ever have the opportunity to travel again, given the ever-changing restrictions on travel. I felt worn-down, trapped, and felt myself resorting to blogging about my travels because it reminded me of a time in my life when I was undeinably happy. With that thought in mind, I quickly moved to write down all my thoughts and my love for travel with the notion that I might never travel again in my lifetime.

This thought was not something new, but something that I had in mind for a long time, but somehow I never got around to writing about it. However chaos and disruption that the COVID-19 pandemic has effected everyone, there is always opportunity and beauty in everything. For me, the pandemic gave me an opportunity to share my story.Ever since I was a little girl, I wanted to be able to publish my own book. I wanted so desperately to have the opportunity to leave behind a legacy towards something that I was truly passionate about, and share my knowledge with the world. Back then, it was the novelty of designing and writing my first laminated book based on the conception of a futuristic world. I still remember that class vividly in grade 3 when we had the opportunity to write our own books and illustrate the cover and back; then and now, it gave me a huge sense of pride.

Today, in less than 25 days, I am watching my dream come true as my book is available on Amazon through Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP).

For many people, travel may be that luxury indulgence that remains in a distant category aside from their daily routines, but for me, it was always a constant harbinger that alleviated my anxiety, solidified my awareness of myself, and gave me energy and inspiration throughout the difficult times.

When I talk about travel in my book, it is not simply about staying and relaxing in all - inclusive beach resorts and indulging in materialistic expenses, but about the hidden and somewhat insignificant joys - the joy of taking a hike throughout the Rocky Mountains, exploring a place that is undiscovered, and learning about the cultures around the world that define and dictate peoples lives. Travel brightened my days when I was going through a tough times in life, whether taking that tough calculus course or getting out of a bad breakup, or getting into a trivial fight with my parents. It also allowed me to see myself through the lenses of others, to reflect and to consider choices in life, and to live life to the fullest.

My parents immigrated to Canada at a time in Chinese society when China was just beginning to establish the foundations of contemporary society through the rapid period of modernization to start a new life. They were trying, like millions of other families, to escape the dire economic circumstances at the time. As a child, my family didn't have much money beyond the bare essentials when arriving in Canada, where my family, like many immigrant families, were trying to find their place in society. My father always said that “ Travel is one of the greatest books and sources of education in life”, and as he became an entrepreneur, his conviction and resolute belief sustained in me - that the greatest education and learning comes from learning from other people and new experiences. Shortly after arriving in Canada, while still living on second floor of a convenience store downstairs in Vancouver, we travelled to Banff in what would be the beginning of my first of my love with travelling, leading to many trips to around Europe, Asia, and others throughout my semester breaks in school.

My mother always wanted my grandparents to be able to come to Canada and see the beautiful landscapes and the livelihood that we have cultivated over the years. However, my grandfather never had that opportunity, having passed away within a year of my grandmother after watching her deal with cancer for several years. He passed away without seeing what this would had to offer, but if he were still alive today, he would be undeniably delighted to see that there are so many places to explore and so many opportunities for young people that were so different from the society and the cultural conventions of the upbringing he grew up in.

Confucious once said that the heart never grows old; it is never too late or too early to start traveling, to start saving money for what's important, and to reflect on those memories that will last a lifetime.

While your habits define your routine, your travels shape and define you as a person.

In this book, I want to share my top 8 trips that have shaped me, and hopefully will shape you and redefine your values. In this book, I have highlighted 8 essential trips that a person must take to find themsleves, along with things to do and insider tips for over 20 countries. When I was a little girl, my dream was to travel the world and see all the amazing places that I have seen in movies and books. My grandpa and many others of my family never had the chance to do so, but I want to change that for millions of children, adults and their families alike.

It it never about the number of places you travel too, but about the circumstances surrounding that trip, the setbacks and most importantly the journey. When we travel, we never travel for the end journey, but for the experiences that shape that journey, both good and bad. The same lesson goes in life, whether striving for that A or that dream job, it is always about the journey and how far you have come. The journey of finding yourself allows you to open your horizons, expand your worldview, enrich your mind and allow your to be your best self.

I believe that travelling is one of the greatest things life can offer; and for those of you that are saving up for a trip, let these trips in my book along with my journey inspire you to inspire others along your journey in life.
